By the Seat of your Pants

I was buying some veggies at the local farmers' market today and the young man selling them told me that he was new at his job and was really just "flying by the seat of his pants". I told him that Aging was like that too, for me. So, while driving home, I decided to give up trying to do it gracefully and just "wing it". So I am now aging by the seat of my pants. This phrase apparently started with aviators flying across the Atlantic for the first time. Sounds right to me and gives me a bit more freedom to be creative.
